LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This webpage is intended to acknowledge that bigleaf maple in Oregon occurs in lands that are the traditional homelands of Oregon tribes past and present. Native American Indian tribes have lived in the region now known as western Oregon for over 14,000 years, or time immemorial as contemporary tribes say. Bigleaf occurs west of the Cascade range in Oregon, but because of kinship relationships between tribes, and intercultural enrollments of members, we wish to recognize and honor all the current tribes of Oregon, as well as those of the past. Additionally, our project team includes members from Oregon State University and other institutions and organizations in the Willamette Valley and surrounding areas that lay within the ceded lands of the Kalapuya, Molalla, and Siletz traditional homelands.
